The Jinny Beyer Palette

For over 20 years quilters have relied on the Jinny Beyer Palette for the backgrounds and basic blenders needed in patchwork design.

The Palette is the foundation of Jinny's color theory, teaching quilters shading techniques to achieve dimensional quilt designs. The Palette gives quilters the range of tonals they need to expand on any focal print. Quilters can create harmonious color effects in quilt projects and use the Palette as a tool for determining how to shade from one color to the next.

The Jinny Beyer Palette has revolutionized quilting by simplifying color choices, making it easy to create infinite color combinations. Jinny's system is based on three key ingredients:

 

1. SHADING-The first ingredient is shading. It is the colors used to link the color groups that create unique dimension. In order to achieve shading, there must be several colors used in a project, and those colors must shade together. This is key to Jinny's entire system

2. THE DEEP DARK-The second ingredient is a very dark fabric, "the deep dark". This fabric is a darker version of one of the colors already being used. The deep dark is always relative to the colors it  accompanies.

3. THE ACCENT-This is a brighter version of one of the colors already being used. The accent is relative to the other fabrics in the palette.

These three ingredients work together to create a dimensional effect. After selecting the colors for your project, shade from the deep dark to the accent color.
